Supporting the work of @efesocollins4mp standing for the @nzgreenparty in Panmure-Ōtāhuhu, and Pasifika Greens, has shown me such high levels of political fatigue, disenfranchisement and intergenerational disconnect here in my communities in #SouthAuckland. And it is so understandable; disenfranchised communities underpin extractive, exploitative, greed-based economics. We have so much untapped power here, and I wish we could find the leaders and vision to power up our communities.
It has always been a joy to hold space for @niulemalu’s work: the family support is top tier! 🫶🏽
Mesmerised by this #Tongan barkcloth encountered today, gifted and beautifully displayed in a very special part of Middlemore Hospital.
In so many ways, this year’s General Election in Aotearoa feels philosophically and culturally profoundly critical.
One of the works in Niu Lemalu’s current exhibition, “Let’s Play Outside” evokes for me, all the embodied feelings of being underwater; the breath held in our lungs, the lightness of our floating limbs, and the full body embrace of water on skin.
Love this image captured by Wendy Beatty of curator Torika Bolatagici discussing our works in “Volume: Bodies of Knowledge” - the powerhouse exhibition that marks the 10th anniversary of @communityreadingroom 🥹💓🫶🏽
MUSCLE MEMORY _ a solo project by Genevieve Pini
Pleased to have caught the artist talanoa and last day of “Good Hair Day” at @tautaipacificarts in central Auckland, an exhibition featuring beautiful work by Bai Buliruarua, Māia Piata Rose Week, Nââwié Tutugoro, Karlin Morrison Raju and Peter Wing Seeto, curated by Luisa Tora.
A lot can change in 12 years! Biggest love to Hobbsy - Rebecca Ann Hobbs - loved catching up on the ever changing tidal flows of life, from the Ōtara gym and Matafaga nightclub to sharing an office as lecturers at MIT, and now sharing perspectives of the arts industry and the ways creative work brings value outside of the art world. Love it!
