“Salty Girl” (2020)

“Salty Girl” (2020) is a painting made by artist-curator, Ema Tavola, produced whilst in New Zealand’s first Covid-19 lockdown in early 2020. It was later shown in “Pussy Fat” at Vunilagi Vou in February-March 2021.

Ema Tavola (b.1982) is a Fijian-Pākehā artist-curator based in Manukau City / South Auckland. Having established her painting practice in Suva, Fiji at the Oceania Centre for Arts, Culture and Pacific Studies at the University of the South Pacific, Tavola went on to study Sculpture at Manukau School of Visual Arts and later Arts Management at AUT University. Whilst curating is an external, social practice for Tavola, artmaking and painting particularly is Tavola’s internal process of intellectual enquiry and creative meditation.

Tavola has works in private and public collections both in New Zealand and abroad.

“Salty Girl” (2020) is an original acrylic paint and pen composition on commercially produced stretched canvas.
