Grassroots (2019) by Nicole Lim

A special commissioned limited edition print produced by Auckland-based graphic designer, Nicole Lim to mark the opening of Vunilagi Vou in 2019.

Nicole Lim and artist-curator Ema Tavola have been long-time collaborators since they worked together at Fresh Gallery Ōtara from 2007-2012. Both graduates of Manukau School of Visual Arts, they quickly established a creative shorthand and went on to produce multiple collaborative design projects.

Grassroots was chosen from Nicole’s impressive illustration archives to represent the breadth of the duo’s creative collaborations, which have all been underpinned by a sense of service to South Auckland grassroots artists and audiences.

Since opening, Nicole has created iconic visual identities for Vunilagi Vou events including the Southside Talanoa Series, Arcade Talks with Luke Willis Thompson and the 2020 Fat Babe Pool Party. She also collaborated with Ema to produce The Struggle and designed Vunilagi Vou’s first publication, VV:Dua.
